Massive Earthquake Strikes Ecuador

Updates

April 19, 2016

On Saturday evening, April 16, an earhquake measuring 7.8 struck the coastal population of Ecuador.  The region where we work up in the mountains is 130 miles from the epicenter.  It was badly shaken, but there was very little structural damage.  All of our church members are okay. The same cannot be said of the people living in the towns and villages near the coast.  The number of dead continues to rise daily, but at the moment stands at 413.  Many thousands are missing and injured.  There are countless more still trapped under the rubble.
We are still in the US until May 31st.  Our bodies may be here, but our hearts remain in Ecuador.  Our congregation in Ecuador has assured us that they are fine, and do not need us to return immediately.  We are very thankful for modern technology that permits instantaneous communication.  The recovery from this quake will take years.  Please pray specifically for the relief efforts taking place as you read this, for the many that may still be clinging to life under debris, and that the Christian Church would rise to offer the hope of the Gospel to those who have suffered so much loss. Pray for wisdom for us as we return in 6 weeks and begin the process of deciding how we can be of help.  Pray for our congregation to stand united in Christ before the community.  Finally, please pray for us as we spend our last six weeks in the US.  We are still in need of approximately $800/month in financial support, and our hearts are anxious to return to the work more so than ever.  Pray that we would have peace in the midst of the storm, and patience to wait for God’s plan rather than our own desires.  We treasure your prayers for us, and thank you for the many kind notes and messages of concern that we have received.
In service to the King,
Dave, Brenda, and the boys.
